WHA Blog

Reproductive health information, explained clearly

Questions about your health don’t always come up during an appointment. They show up later—when something feels off, when you’re weighing a decision or when you just want to understand what’s normal.

The WHA blog is here for that in-between space. You’ll find articles written and reviewed by our clinicians, covering gynecology, pregnancy and overall health. The goal is simple: give you information that’s accurate, understandable and actually useful.

While helpful, these articles are not a substitute for medical care from a licensed professional. Read our medical disclaimer and website terms of use.

Your guide to understanding and treating pelvic organ prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse sounds much more intimidating (and slightly catastrophic) than it actually is. The condition is quite common, yet underdiagnosed and undertreated. This is largely due to patients waiting years to seek care, either because they assume symptoms are natural consequences of postpartum or aging, or because they feel too embarrassed by the experience….

What is urogynecology? Pelvic floor health questions and when to see a specialist

Pelvic floor disorders are incredibly common, yet not normal experiences. People often live with them for years without ever seeking care, partly due to embarrassment and partly because of the assumption that their symptoms are just part of aging or a fallout from childbirth. To be clear: pelvic floor disorders are not something to endure….

Bladder Behaving Badly? Your Diet Could Be to Blame

Overactive bladder is the name given to symptoms of urinary urgency (the sudden overwhelming urge to urinate that feels like you may not be able to control it), urinary frequency (when you feel like you have to go all the time) and/or urinary urge incontinence (the sudden overwhelming urge to urinate that results in uncontrollable…

Portland Urogynecology: Surgical Options for Treating Stress Urinary Incontinence

If you leak urine with coughing, lifting, laughing, sneezing or any other physical activity, you have stress urinary incontinence. The severity can range from mildly irritating to socially debilitating. If non-surgical treatments, including pelvic floor muscle strengthening (kegel exercises) or lifestyle changes (weight loss is particularly effective) have not been helpful, don’t give up hope. There…
