Our offices remain open during the strike  >

Women’s Healthcare Associates, LLC (WHA) is an independent, clinician-owned group medical practice with Portland roots dating to the 1940s. We are driven by a shared commitment to provide high-quality, patient-centered care with respect, integrity and compassion.

Although we are not employed by Providence or Legacy health systems, our ability to fully pursue our vision and mission depends on partnerships with these hospitals and the nurses, providers and staff who work there. We can all agree that safe, sustainable working conditions are integral to ensuring the highest standards of patient care, and we recognize and support the efforts being made to achieve these objectives.

While our community colleagues pursue the steps they believe necessary to improve working conditions, patients continue to require hospital care. Some have insurance constraints that limit them to striking facilities; others arrive due to the urgency of their medical needs. Out of our duty of care and commitment to patient safety, we cannot allow these patients to be placed at additional risk. Nor can we place WHA’s own providers in untenable situations that threaten their wellbeing.

For these reasons, where needed and possible, we have chosen to increase the number of WHA physicians and nurse-midwives on-call at Providence facilities, alongside other independent medical practices in the community.

We sincerely hope for a timely resolution of labor negotiations that prioritizes patient safety and access to care, as well as the wellbeing of providers and care teams. WHA remains committed to serving our patients and the wider community as a trusted partner in supporting the health of people throughout the region.
